HARLEM -- Mikel Paschal had one of the best offensive performances of his prep basketball career to lead the Thomson High Bulldogs over the Harlem Bulldogs 93-41 on Saturday. Paschal scored 30 points.
Ronkeem Sallywhite scored 17 points and Josh Daniels scored 11.
Thomson head coach Michael Thomas said the key to the victory over Harlem was his team's speed.
"We were a lot quicker than they were," said coach Thomas after his team notched its first sub-Region 3-AAA win of the season. "It's always good to win. We got back to playing like we did earlier in the season and that was good to see."
Thomson is now 1-2 in sub-region play.
The Bulldogs played T.W. Josey's Eagles in another key sub-region game Tuesday night.
On Friday night, Thomson will be on the road to Grovetown. On Saturday, they will play host to the Jefferson County Warriors in a nonregion affair. Results of those games will be in next week's edition.
In the game against Harlem, Thomson simply took it to their opponents.
"I thought we played a pretty complete game," said coach Thomas, noting he was pleased that his entire team got to see playing time on the hardwood.
It didn't take long before the Thomson Bulldogs jumped out to a big lead, which they simply continued to build as the game progressed. By the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs had built up a 9-point lead, 22-13. By halftime, Thomson had exploded to a 26-point lead, 49-23.
Twelve of the 30 points Paschal scored came from 3-point range.
At the end of the third quarter, Thomson had locked up the game, as they led 72-33. Because of their big lead, the fourth quarter was cut from 8 minutes to 6 minutes.
Other Thomson players scoring in the game: Anthony Moss, 9, Antonio Coleman, 7, Biquavious Sturgis, 6, Jonathan Atkins, 4, Jamontae Beard, 3, B. J. Davis, 3, and Teddio Daniels, 2.
