Could it get any worse for the Briarwood Academy Buccaneers in basketball?
Yes, it could. But the team and coaching staff do not want that to happen.
"We've just got to keep battling out there and soon we're going to turn this thing around and start winning some games," Briarwood Academy head coach Bo Fleming said.
His team lost its eighth game in a row against the visiting Lancers of Central Fellowship Christian Academy on Saturday at the Briarwood Academy gym. The final score was 53-43.
"We've really had to work hard to get the few wins that we gotten this season," coach Fleming added.
The Buccaneers' overall record going into the Tuesday night game this week against Brentwood Academy was 5-12. Their Region 1-AA record, meanwhile, stood at 1-8.
This weekend, the Buccaneers will play Covenant Academy on the road Friday. They return home to do battle with Windsor Academy of Macon Saturday night.
A story about those three games will appear in next week's newspaper.
The Buccaneers also suffered a loss to Piedmont Academy on Friday night.
In the loss to Central Fellowship, Ryan Pritchett, a junior, led the Bucs in scoring with 10 points. He was followed by Dalton Reese with 9 points, Tyler Daniel, 7; Colt Phelps, 6; Ryan Nelson, 5; and Spencer Hadden, 4 points.
Once again, free-throws turned out to be a big problem for the Bucs. They hit only 10 of 23.
"We've got to start playing more complete games," coach Fleming said.
