A 20-year-old Thomson woman was arrested last week after she struck a man over the head with a shovel, authorities say.
The woman was identified as Shannequa Z.P. Paul, of the 400 block of Bussey Avenue, according to a report filed by Thomson police Cpl. Josh Caston. Ms. Paul, who was taken into custody on Jan. 16, was charged with one count of aggravated assault.
She was jailed in the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center.
Ms. Paul is accused of attacking Ira Embry, 49, of the 400 block of Bussey Avenue, Thomson, Thomson police Capt. Jamie Bridges said.
Mr. Embry had a laceration that required 14 staples, Capt. Bridges said.
The victim was treated at the emergency room of McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson.
Mr. Embry told police that after he was struck with the shovel, which caused him to fall to the ground, Ms. Paul sat on his chest and choked him.
