Warrenton man arrested after chase

A Warrenton man was arrested on traffic charges after reportedly attempting to elude a police officer Jan. 17.

The suspect was identified as Gene Alexander Reese, 22, of the 100 block of Hall Street, according to a report filed by Thomson police Sgt. Steve Stewart.

Mr. Reese was taken into custody on the following charges: fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and driving while license suspended, Sgt. Stewart said. He was taken to the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center, where he was jailed.

The charges against Mr. Reese stemmed from a brief pursuit by Sgt. Stewart. The officer said he had to use his blue lights and siren in an attempt to get the driver to stop for failure to maintain lane. The pursuit ended in the 500 block of Dell Drive.

The pursuit never exceeded 50 mph, Sgt. Stewart said.

"The offender repeatedly swerved into the oncoming lane of travel, operating his vehicle in a reckless manner that endangered the public," Sgt. Stewart said.
