Thomson Family Y gears up for Community Support Campaign

The Thomson Family Y's annual Community Support Campaign is about to begin.

Because the Family Y believes that everyone should have an opportunity to build healthy spirits, minds and bodies, it does not want to turn anyone away. The purpose of the Community Support Campaign is to make the programs of the Family Y affordable and accessible to all. All money donated goes directly to assist individuals in McDuffie County or Warren County.

In any given year, the Family Y organization gives away programs and services worth much more than is raised through the campaign.

A pledge of $60 will provide a month of dance or gymnastics for one child.

A donation of $165 will allow three children to learn karate. A donation of $480 will provide swimming lessons for eight children.

A $900 donation will send a child to day camp every day for one summer.

The Thomson Family Y has set a goal of $49,000 for this year. Kathy Usry is the 2011 campaign leader.

Donors can mail their contributions to Thomson Family Y, 510 Hill St., Thomson, GA 30824 in care of DeDe Keir or drop a check off at the facility.

Christy Brown is a retired educator and an instructor at the Family Y in Thomson.
