To the editor:
I have wondered many times what a person has to do to get a response from a county official, much less get something done.
May I list a few?
Several years ago, I visited a commission meeting. Two things I thought were important were a storm warning system and animal control unit.
To this day I have not heard a word, not even the courtesy of a phone call. Maybe they are all waiting for someone to be blown away or attacked by someone's mongrel dog running all over the city and county!
I am sure that if we are to attract some new business, mating dogs in front of God and everybody will be a great drawing card for this community!
I have also just recently talked to the superintendent of roads. I mentioned a number of items. One is a safety factor. A tree was blown over last year, partially hanging over Mesena Road, and the tree is still there. If it decides to fall, someone could get their bell rung or even hurt!
Another item is a hole in the road at the intersection of Grier Circle and Mesena Road. It will rattle your teeth if you have to cross it rather than go around it.
Also, why do we have to beg to get "trash dump road" (Mesena Road) trash removed? There can't be much at the landfill because it's scattered all up and down the road! There are other issues involved, but the bottom line is I don't believe anyone listens or even cares unless it's election time!
The road super says McDuffie County has no money. That's so funny; I see unnecessary use of tax money being spent all around.
When there are officials ramming projects down the throats of taxpayers for what they want rather than what good citizens and taxpayers want, that is so sad. Shame, shame. Believe this, I am not a politician and am not running for an office. I stand on my belief and probably the beliefs of most of the other taxpaying citizens in McDuffie County.
