Briarwood junior Dalton Reese took honors with a 9-hole 41 Monday as the golf Buccaneers won their opening match of the 2011 season.
The Briarwood squad tallied a four-golfer score of 172 in a three-way contest at its home, Belle Meade Country Club.
Windsor Academy of Macon, Ga., tallied a 186 and Nathanael Greene Academy of Siloam tallied a 214.
Jackson Sims notched a 42 for the Bucs. Ashton Wiley scored a 44, and Blake Sowell recorded a 45.
Windsor was led by Ryan Bowden at 45, with Caleb Fuller, Austin Long and Curt Obenauf at 47.
Greene was led by Jay Long at 48, with Tyler Dauler at 50, Ben Holcomb at 56 and Pete Peuch at 60.
Medalist Reese said he played as much as he could during the offseason but has been busy with basketball and now baseball. "I get to all the matches. I don't get to practice," he said.
Asked about course conditions and the weather, Briarwood coach Dennis Coxwell said "cold."
Coach Allan Bailey of Nathanael Greene said his Patriots use Greene County Country Club in Union Point as their home course. He said Monday was his team's first trip to Belle Meade. He described it as "a nice little course, with challenging pins."
The victory in a three-way match puts Briarwood at 2-0 for the season, coach Coxwell said. Its next match is tonight at Belle Meade as host to Curtis Baptist School of Augusta, before another three-way home match Monday.
