Buccaneers overcome tough conditions to defeat Crusaders

Briarwood Academy's golf Buccaneers held off a visiting squad from Curtis Baptist School of Augusta at Belle Meade Country Club last week.

Coach Dennis Coxwell's squad tallied a combined 186. Curtis Baptist's top four scores totaled 242 in the March 10 match.

Briarwood's Dalton Reese and Blake Sowell tied for medalist honors at 45. Jackson Sims and Taylor Coxwell each had 48. Ashton Wiley had 52. Tad McCorkle finished at 64. Bryce Sowell finished at 65, and Jackson Williams had a 67.

"Cold temperatures, high winds and drenching rain the day before doesn't make for a fun day on the golf course," coach Coxwell wrote in an e-mail. "We were just trying to hold it together considering the playing conditions, and they did."
