Thomson woman charged with child molestation

A Thomson woman is in custody at the McDuffie County jail on charges of child molestation.

Akanksha Black, 26, of Third Street, was arrested Monday, according to the Thomson Police Department.

A juvenile told staff at Maxwell Elementary school that she had been molested, according to a police report. The school contacted the Department of Family and Children Services, which turned the case over to Child Advocacy Center in Augusta, the report says.

Lynn Umberger of the center conducted a video interview with the juvenile, who reportedly said that Black had placed her hands on her private area on Feb. 28.

Umberger said that she learned Black had been drinking that night and had gotten in bed with her grandmother and the juvenile. Umberger said that while in bed Black was on top of the juvenile.

Sgt. Marquis Murray of the Thomson Police Department and Umberger took the video and interviewed the grandmother, the reported said.

The grandmother remembered having to get Black off the juvenile but never observed any touching.

In an interview with Sgt. Murray, Black admitted drinking that evening but said she wasn't drunk and denied touching the juvenile, the report said.
