Five people injured in accident

Five people were injured in a Saturday night accident in Thomson. A Thomson man was charged in the crash.

Trooper 1st Class Mark Cabe of the Georgia State Patrol said the 9:44 p.m. crash happened in front of Bi-Lo on North Main Street. A northbound vehicle driven by Eugene Harmon, 51, of Thomson, struck another northbound vehicle, driven by Latoya Johnson, 25, of Warrenton.

Harmon's vehicle overturned and slid about 80 to 100 feet on the passenger side, and then rolled four times before coming to rest on its tires.

Everyone in both vehicles was injured and was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital. Johnson was hospitalized overnight.

Harmon was charged with driving under the influence, following too closely and open container. He was taken to the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center and has since posted bail and has been released.
