Men put on dresses for beauty pageant fundraiser

Thomson High School held a Womanless Beauty Pageant on April 21, with proceeds to benefit Relay For Life. The pageant was preceded by a chicken dinner sale in the school lunchroom.

"This is part of our overall Relay For Life fundraising efforts, including the dunking booth, the chicken dinner, and the beauty pageant," said Ashley Wyatt, the THS team captain for Relay for Life.

"So far we've raised over $2,700 for Relay for Life, and we're still selling tickets, so it should end up being even more than that. We're doing this to raise money to fight cancer, to find better cancer treatment, and hopefully someday to find a cure," Wyatt said.

The Womanless Beauty Pageant was held in the school auditorium and featured male students and faculty made up and dressed as women, and judged by a panel of judges consisting of Jennifer Hubert, Ebony Sanders and Jeannie Wilds.

"Mrs. Wyatt has really done a great job putting together these events," Assistant Principal Mike Smallwood said during the event. "And the pageant participants have done a great job, as well. The guys in the pageant have raised over $500 on their own, going out and selling tickets to the event."

The students and faculty participating in the pageant were Brandon Jones (aka Britannica Alexius Brown), Mar'Quavious Jones (Marquisha "Boo Boo" Jones), Justin Parker (Trina Parker), Ethan Dowler (Lindsay Dunn Dowler), Joshua McKinney (Joshina Shanell McKinney), B.J. Davis (Ezriqua Boomquisha Davis), Justin Bettross (Jiezell Isabella Bettross), La'Vance Yarbough (La'Veekia Yarbough), Tashawn Boyd (Tashawna Boyd), Jordan Davis (Jor'Dasia Heorshe Davis), Garrison Kendrick (Garristina Kendrick), Jacoby Crawford (Jackio Crawford), Robert Anthony (Roberta Anthony), Clinton Hilson (Clintina Hilson), Marion Crawford (Maria Crawford), and Bob Knox (Robin Knox).

The pageant featured an opening dance, individual presentations, group dance, and the presentation of awards.

The Best Dressed Teen prize went to Joshina Shannell McKinney. The Best Dressed Adult award went to Roberta Anthony. McKinney and Anthony also won Best Response teen and adult, respectively.

Jor'Dasia Heorshe Davis was judged as having the Best Smile. Trina Parker was judged as having Best Walk. Roberta Anthony was judged Most Entertaining Overall, and the pageant's highest honor and award, the People's Choice Award, went to Dowler.

"I just want to thank everyone for all their support," Dowler in accepting the award.
