Restaurant co-owner Pat Landon knows which Bojangles' Famous Chicken 'n Biscuits menu item he likes best.
"The dirty rice is pretty darned good, but the mac and cheese is my favorite," said Landon, whose customers will choose from among nine side items. The restaurant at 1826 Washington Road in Thomson opened May 5.
Pat and Sandra Landon lead 55 Thomson employees. Three staffers were brought in from Landon's three Bojangles restaurants in Augusta; the other 52 workers live in or near Thomson. Their son Daniel is general manager. Their daughter Christin also works in the company, along with members of the extended family. Jason Victorian is the night manager of the Thomson location. Wes Richards is the operations director.
Two evenings before the public opening, the restaurant invited local leaders to a VIP party. School, city and county officials and their families were welcomed to the restaurant.
Bojangles' hours are 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The full menu includes all Bojangles items, with one addition. Thomson has the cinnamon pecan twist that is not yet available elsewhere.
Pat Landon said he has 34 years' experience in restaurant corporate and franchise management. He likes Bojangles' progressive leadership, reasonable franchise rates and technical assistance fees.
He also likes the company's food. "I can't think of one item that we sell that doesn't have a unique flavor," he said. All items are prepared from recipes, he said. "They're not poured out of a can."
He said the response in Thomson has been very positive. "Thomson has been very warm, from the planning until now," he said.
The restaurant offers seniors 55 or older a 15 percent discount, he said.
The restaurant covers 3,800 square feet and has a seating capacity of 78.
