Mrs. Debra "Debbie" Byrd Payne
HARLEM, Ga. - Mrs. Debra "Debbie" Byrd Payne, 51,
wife of David E. Payne, entered into rest Monday, May 30,
2011, at the Doctors Hospital, Augusta.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June
2, 2011, at Powell Baptist Church with the Reverends
Randall Whitaker and David Byrd officiating. Interment
was in South Harlem Memorial Gardens.
Debbie was born in Augusta and was a retired electrician
from the Savannah River Site. She was a member of Powell
Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher,
served on the Hospitality Committee, and volunteered for
the Burn Unit at the Joseph M Still Burn Center. She was
a loving devoted wife and mother and "MeMa." She was
devoted to her Lord, her church and was a dear friend to
many.
Survivors include her husband David E. Payne; one
daughter, Cynthia Michele Edenfield and husband David,
Martinez; two sons, David W. Payne and wife Michele,
Grovetown, Donavon Wright Black, North Carolina;
brothers David Roger Byrd and wife Marilyn, Michael
Daniel Byrd and wife Connie, Lincolnton, Jeffery Allen
Byrd and wife LeAnne, Martinez and Darrell Wayne
Byrd, Martinez; and six
grandchildren Ashley
Payne, Eric Payne, Drew,
Logan, Jordan and Grayson
Edenfield; her parents,
Roger and Betty R. Byrd,
Grovetown.
She was preceded in
death by Otis Steve Byrd
and Fanny Lavonia Byrd
and John P. Rachels and
Elizabeth Rachels.
Pallbearers were David
Maddox, Tommy Davis,
Chris Maddox, Ed James,
Bob Volner and Chris
Knoeferl. Honorary
pallbearers were deacons of
Powell Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to
the Powell Baptist Church
Property Fund, 1577 Old
Appling Harlem Highway,
Harlem, GA 30814.
Starling Funeral Home was
in charge of arrangements.
