The Thomson Iris & Daylily Society sponsored its 18th annual daylily show on Sunday, June 5, at The Depot. In an e-mail, club spokesman Vernon Johnson said the show was a great success.
Exhibitors came from Athens, Canoochee, Milledgeville, Augusta, Mesena and elsewhere.
Judges came from Hahira, Dahlonega, Eatonton, Milledgeville and Warner Robins.
"We were greatly pleased that a 78-year-old man came to his first daylily show," Johnson wrote. "Derrick Lane came all the way from Canoochee. We were awe-struck by the quality of his daylilies. Evidently the judges thought so, too, as he won three different awards."
Winners by category were: Best Extra Large Flower, Canoochee Spirit, Derrick Lane; Best Large Flower, Along the Way, Earnest Yearwood; Best Small Flower, Katisue, Earnest Yearwood; Best Miniature Flower, Everybody Loves Earnest, Earnest Yearwood; Best Double, Multiform and Polymerous, Canoochee Spirit, Derrick Lane; Best Spider, Skinwalker, Earnest Yearwood; Best Unusual Form, Desert Icicle, Earnest Yearwood; Popularity Poll, Orange Velvet, Derrick Lane; Best In Show, Katisue, Earnest Yearwood; Sweepstakes, Earnest Yearwood.
The society is already planning next year's show. The date is yet to be determined. It will depend on where the spring regional is held. A local society cannot hold a show while the regional is in session.
"We hope everybody will come to the show," Johnson wrote.
