Women play for golf title

The Georgia Women's Match Play Championship is under way at Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton.

A qualifying round of 18-hole stroke-play for all 40 players was held Tuesday to determine seeds in match play brackets. The low 32 scores from stroke-play qualifying advanced to the Championship flight, which began Wednesday. The remaining eight players were placed in the first flight based on scores from stroke-play qualifying.

Quarterfinal and semifinal matches for the championship flight will be contested today, along with the semifinal and final matches of the first flight. The championship final will take place Friday.

The Georgia Women's Match Play Championship began in 1998 and has been played each year at Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton.

Laura Coble of Augusta has captured eight of the 13 previous titles (1999, 2001-2005, 2009-2010).

Sunset Hills Country Club opened in 1948 and was originally designed by Robert Trent Jones.
