WARRENTON --- A city maintenance crew ruptured a high-pressure gas line in Warrenton last week, causing the closure of a road and some businesses.
The crew was working on a sewer line near Legion Drive when the break occurred about 8:30 a.m. June 15.
Tami Gerke, a spokeswoman for Atlanta Gas Light Co., said the leak was halted at 2 p.m.
The rupture on Brown Circle, just off Legion Drive, forced the closing of the nearby health department, the Smith Ford dealership, Red and White Grocery and the school bus maintenance facility, police Lt. Richard Brunner said. Legion Drive was blocked between East Main Street and the school bus compound.
No residents were evacuated because the wind was blowing gas to the southwest, "toward Sparta," Brunner said.
