Mrs. Nina Chafin Jones

THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Nina Chafin Jones, 96, widow of Mr. Robert Lamar Jones, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at her residence. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2011, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. Leonard Dupree officiating. Burial was in the Norwood City Cemetery. Mrs. Jones was a native of Norwood, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She was an honor graduate of Warrenton High School and the University of Georgia. She became a schoolteacher, and later married Mr. R. Lamar Jones, who was a native of Franklin County, Ga. They spent many years in Morristown, New Jersey before returning to Thomson. She was a member of the Thomson First Baptist Church. Survivors include her niece, Sara C. Jackson, Warrenton; her three nephews, William V. Chafin, Hartwell; Robert B. Chafin, Sharon; Thomas Lee Chafin, Virginia Beach, VA.; her two step-nieces, Sibley Fleming Wheeler, Thomson; Catherine Fleming Beadles, Aiken, SC.; a sister-inlaw, Eleanor Cox, Anderson, SC.; her caregivers, Louise Hatcher, Valarie Simmons, Geraldine Morris, Sandra Curry, Jimmy Avera, and Dorothy Hart. Pallbearers were Don Newsome, Otis Harrison, Mike Tyler, Garrett Edmunds. If so desired, donations may be made to the Thomson First Baptist Church Building Fund. Curtis Funeral Home wass in charge of arrangements.
