Augusta Technical
College held its
commencement ceremony
Wednesday, June 15, 2011,
at the James Brown Arena
in Augusta.
Fifteen recent Thomson
High School graduates
and one rising senior were
among those receiving
degrees, diplomas and
certificates. These students
enrolled in Augusta
Technical College's dual
enrollment program in
order to work towards
their Patient Care Assisting
Technical Certificate of
Credit.
They enrolled in courses
in the evening in addition
to their regular high
school academics. These
students studied courses
in Employer Relations
and Interpersonal Skills,
Medical Terminology, Diet
and Nutrition and Certified
Nursing Fundamentals.
Upon completion of their
coursework they were able
to apply their knowledge
through hands on clinical
experience.
Julie Langham,
enrollment manager,
Augusta Technical College
had the following things
to say about the students:
"The benefit of this
program is that through
articulated credit from
Thomson High School and
dual enrollment, students
are able to get a head start
on their LPN diploma
where other students would
basically be starting from
scratch right after their
high school graduation.
"Even students who
plan to attend a fouryear
college benefit from
this program because it
introduces them to college
life and gives them basic
academic courses that
will provide a good strong
foundation for any major
they choose.
"This is our fourth year
that we have offered this
program for the high
school students. The
seniors worked very hard
to juggle both college and
high school academics.
It is very rewarding to
see them graduate from
Thomson High and then
almost one month later
they participated in our
Augusta Technical College
graduation ceremony.
Upon completion of
the program they are
eligible to apply to take
the certification exam and
actually go to work."s
