Man attacked with baseball bat

A Thomson man is in jail, charged with attacking another man with a baseball bat after a children's birthday party.

Thomson police Capt. Jamie Bridges said that Antoine Johnson, 29, of the 800 block of Lincoln Circle, and Dandre Howell, 27, of the 1000 block of Spruce Street, were playing cards after the party Monday at Johnson's home. After an argument between the two men, Johnson picked up an aluminum baseball bat and struck Howell on the neck and side, Bridges said. The captain said children were present during the attack.

After Howell left, Johnson and his brother-in-law Rodriguez Green got into a fight, and police were called, Bridges said. Johnson and Green were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

On Tuesday police Sgt. Scott Whittle was called to the hospital, where Howell had gone for treatment, and Johnson, who was still in custody on the disorderly conduct charge, was charged with aggravated assault and cruelty to children.
