Police seek robber</p>
A man who robbed the Thomson Econo Lodge on July 14 was being sought by McDuffie County authorities this week.
A report filed by Sgt. 1st Class Mike Hobbs of the county sheriff's office said that a man entered the motel shortly before 5 p.m. and asked to rent two rooms, according to an employee.
The man then produced a handgun and demanded money. The employee said the man hit her on her chin with the pistol.
When the employee fled to the motel office and called 911, the thief jumped over the counter and took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash drawer, Hobbs said.
Fight leads to charges
A Thomson man was arrested Sunday in connection with a May knife attack and a July 2010 burglary.
Darius Tremain Rucker, 31, is charged with aggravated assault and theft by receiving stolen property.
According to a McDuffie County sheriff's report, Rucker and Tangela Andrews were having a heated argument in the parking lot of Thomson Plastic on Quality Drive on the night of May 13. Andrews was blaming her boyfriend for making her late for work.
Another employee, Grady King, told Andrews to go inside and clock in, according to the report. Rucker then followed King into the building, where he became belligerent, King said, and cut him on the left arm with a small knife.
Rucker was also charged by Thomson police with theft by receiving stolen property.
Police Sgt. Marquis Murray said that on April 25 he was called to The Pawn Shoppe at 645 Cobbham Road, where Leon Buffington said he had found two air conditioning units that had been stolen from him. The shop's owner, Scott Shivers, said that Rucker had sold him the units, which were returned to Buffington, and Murray obtained a warrant for Rucker's arrest.
Fight includes hammer
A Thomson man is charged with striking another man in the head with a hammer.
Thomson police Sgt. Marquis Murray said that on July 13 Andre Harris Jr. and Kenneth Reese got into an argument outside the SunTrust Bank at 658 Main St. over money Reese owed Harris' mother. As Reese turned to walk away, Murray said, Harris struck him in the head once with the hammer.
Reese was taken to McDuffie Regional Medical Center by ambulance. Harris was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated assault.
