A 27-year-old McDuffie County man was killed late Friday when his pickup veered off a road near Dearing and struck an embankment.
Joseph "Joey" Kevin Sweatman, of Mesena Road in Thomson, died of blunt force trauma, according to McDuffie County Coroner Rhusha Mack. The coroner said Sweatman was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Georgia State Patrol Trooper Jason Cunningham investigated the crash along Wellmaker Road near Ansley Road northwest of Dearing.
According to the report, Sweatman was driving east in a Chevy S-10 pickup when he lost control of the truck for an unknown reason. The pickup went off the road, struck an embankment and overturned. Sweatman was ejected from the pickup.
Funeral arrangements for Sweatman are pending at Beggs Funeral Home in Thomson.
