Mrs. Melvis Black Gay
DEARING, Ga. - Mrs. Melvis Black Gay, 64, beloved wife of
Mr. Ralph Gay, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 5, in
the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Reese
officiating. Burial was in the Walker Cemetery.
Mrs. Gay was a native of Jefferson County, but has lived many
years in Dearing. She had retired from Thomson Company, and
was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mrs. Gay was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Thomas
Black (J.T.) and Maudie Black, her brother, Tommy Black, and
sister, Sharon Black.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Gay, Dearing; her son,
Billy (Gitti) Gay, Dearing; her daughter, Sherri (Mark) Cliett,
Dearing; a brother, George Black; sister, Hilda (Bob) Pelhum,
Atlanta; her mother-in-law, Sarah Gay; her sister-in-law, Mae
Black; grandchildren, Brett Gay, Brooke Gay, Katie Howell,
Britney Murphy, Ashlie Lanier, Christopher Howell, four greatgrandchildren,
and a special friend and caregiver, Neva Calhoun,
Pallbearers were Joey Overton, Bud Overton, Ronnie Banks,
Jamie Murphy, David Wells, and Troy Tapley.
Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements
