Partners, Walmart join forces to help supply school supplies

There's one more opportunity to help McDuffie County Partners for Success and Walmart Stuff the Bus.

Volunteers will be at the Thomson Walmart on Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., collecting school supplies for low-income and underprivileged students who have been referred to Partners for Success by the Department of Family and Children Services, Housing Authority, school system and others.

Partners for Success spent part of Aug. 13 collecting supplies at Walmart. The Stuff the Bus campaign coincides with Partners for Success' annual "Pencils for Partners" school supply drive.

"Saturday was a great day," said Miriam Smith, McDuffie County Partners for Success executive director. "Despite the hot weather and a little rain in the afternoon, we received a lot of support."

There are still several ways you can help: adopt a child or family and provide his/her school supplies, make a monetary donation or donate supplies. All items and money donated will go to help McDuffie County children.

In a news release, the sponsoring organization said, "This a great opportunity for all faith-based organizations, civic groups, businesses and families to come together to help not only our students, but our educators as well by having all children adequately prepared for school. This is also a great opportunity for your children to give back to the community."

For more information or to sign up to help with Pencils & Partners, please call (706) 595-3112.
