Month-long probe nets drug arrests

The Thomson Police Department arrested Lonnie Lee Harris Jr., 42, and Shenika Shaunt Howard, 28, both of the 600 block of Boulevard Drive, Friday night on charges of marijuana and drug possession.

The arrests were the result of an investigation and many hours of surveillance, Thomson Police Chief Joe Nelson said.

About a month ago, the department was told that there was an unusual amount of traffic at the suspects' residence. Neighbors said Harris and Howard were in the business of selling narcotics, Nelson said.

After monitoring the building and stopping vehicles leaving the residence, TPD officers confirmed that they were selling drugs. Officers contacted a confidential informant and were able to make controlled buys, Nelson said. The department obtained a search warrant, which they executed Sept. 30.

Nelson said officers found marijuana, pills, a significant quantity of currency and drug paraphernalia indicative of the sale and distribution of controlled substances.
