The Briarwood middle school football team improved to 7-0 with a 24-0 victory over Gatewood Academy.
"To shut a team like Gatewood out speaks volumes for our defense," Briarwood coach Bo Fleming said. "We were getting 11 players to the football every play. Dakota (Reese) had a great day, but we have got to give credit to our offensive line. They opened holes over and over for my running backs."
Dakota Reese returned the opening kickoff to the Gatewood 30 yard line, setting the Bucs up with great field position. Two plays later, Reese scored on a 26-yard run. He added the two-point conversion to make the score 8-0 with 7:05 left in the first. The Gators drove to the Bucs 3 yard line to be turned away on a fourth-and-goal.
The Bucs scored five plays later on a Dakota Reese 75-yard run. Jeb Blount added the two-point conversion to make the score 16-0 with 4:23 left in the second quarter. The Bucs scored on the first drive of the second half as Reese scored on 30-yard run. Tripp Harper added the two-point conversion to make the score 24-0 with 4:50 left in the third quarter. The Bucs turned the game over to the younger guys in the fourth quarter, and the final score was 24-0.
Briarwood plays Edmund Burke Academy tonight in the Bucs' final home game.
