Graduating nurses are given their pins

The Thomson campus of Augusta Technical College held a pinning ceremony for the practical nursing class on Oct. 12.

Graduates were Brooke Axon, Amanda DiFranco, Tiffany Franks, Steven Hartman, Brittany Johnson, Tiffany Lower, Jessica McCollum, Kristen Penna, Sharon Smith and Nicole Sullivan.

The ceremony took place in Wilson Hall and began with a welcome from Ted Duzenski, vice president of operations of the Thomson campus.

Those in attendance were then led in the Pledge of Allegiance by Denise Fowler, an instructor at the school, followed by an invocation led by instructor Margaret Pella.

Faculty and staff were introduced by Duzenski, and Linda Jung introduced the speaker, Heather Thomas. Thomas is an instructor at the main campus of Augusta Technical College.

She encouraged the graduates to do their best and made them promise that if they ever found themselves disliking their job, they would quit and pursue something else.

After Thomas' speech, the graduates took the stage one at a time and were pinned by various members of their families.

Following the pinning, the graduates were led in the Practical Nursing Pledge by Jung. She then led them in reciting the Nurse's Prayer.
