VETERANS CANTEEN

WHERE: Thomson-McDuffie County Library multi-purpose room

WHEN: 9:30 a.m. Friday

DETAILS: This event is hosted by Thomson-McDuffie Friends of the Library to honor veterans and their families. At 11 a.m., a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the monument on the lawn of the old courthouse across from the library. All veterans and their families are encouraged to attend.

PARENT'S NIGHT OUT

WHERE: Thomson Family Y130

WHEN: 6-10 p.m. Saturday

DETAILS: Fun, entertaining night for children ages 2-12. Cost is $10 per child for Family Y members; $15 per child for nonmembers. Discount for additional siblings. Register at any Family Y location or online at www.thefamilyy.org. Financial assistance is available for all Family Y programs.

PRESENTS FROM PARTNERS

DETAILS: Annual Christmas adoption/donation campaign for families and children in McDuffie County. This is a great way to make a difference in a family's life at Christmas. Call Partners For Success at (706) 595-3112 to adopt a family.

VETERANS DAY celebration

WHEN: 2:15 p.m. today.

WHERE: Thomson-McDuffie Middle School

DETAILS: Veterans are invited to attend, and are asked to sign in at the front office upon arrival at the school. Principal Neal Tam will introduce Gen. Dewayne Patrick, the guest speaker. The school will recognize TMMS faculty and staff who are veterans. The Thomson High School Jazz Band will perform. Gunnery Sgt. Larry Dunn and the Thomson High Color Guard and Drill Team will perform at the conclusion.

DETAILS: Garbage and recycle services will be performed today. Please have garbage cans and recycle bins at the curb at 8 a.m. today. Emergency calls can be addressed by calling (706) 595-2145 or (706) 595-6133 to arrange repairs of utility services. Police and fire departments will be on the job as usual.

DETAILS: The festival marks its 15th year with a day of family entertainment, living history demonstrations, antique tractors and Southern cooking. Admission is free. The park is at 147 Lumber Street, Lincolnton. Call (757) 831-9556.

SPORTSMAN'S FESTIVAL

WHERE: Warrenton

WHEN: Saturday

DETAILS: Lumberjack shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the City Park. Between shows, lumberjacks will demonstrate chainsaw carving. Car cruise-in will fill the courthouse square from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors will be on hand, and T-shirts will be available for the 18th annual event.
