Dearing council studies budget items

The Dearing Town Council discussed prospective budget items for next year at their monthly meeting Monday. They will finalize the 2012 budget at their meeting in December.

The largest project being discussed is the construction of a walking track at the old Dearing Elementary School, where the annual Mayfest celebration is held.

Another area of spending up for discussion was the fire department budget, which will also be finalized for the December council meeting.

In other business, Mayor Sean Kelley noted that the lowered ISO rating, reduced from an 8 to a 4, will go into effect Dec. 1. Dearing residents should contact their insurance providers for a new quote for homeowners' insurance.

At the council's October meeting, the council decided to get the neighborhood watch group active again. Council member Judson Story, who organizes the group, said a neighborhood watch meeting is planned for 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Dearing City Hall.

Dearing's annual tree lighting will take place Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. in the schoolyard of the old Dearing Elementary School.

Kelley also noted that the Dearing volunteer fire department will have its Christmas dinner Dec. 10 at the elementary school.

All council members were present at the meeting.
