THOMSON — Retired Master Sgt. Arthur Q. Sparks, 83, husband of Mrs. Joyce H. Sparks, entered into rest Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at the Thomson First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Barnes IV officiating. Interment followed in South Harlem Memorial Gardens with military honors accorded.
Mr. Sparks was a native of LaGrange, Ga., and was a retired U.S. Army master sergeant, having served in World War II and Vietnam. He was a member of the Thomson Rotary Club and was a professional scouting executive for the Ogeechee District. He was a member of the Thomson First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Hamer Sparks; one son William A. (Barbara) Sparks, Maryland; one daughter Debra (Woods) Sparks Huff, Washington; grandchildren, Jason Hooton, Miranda Hooton Cushman, Philip Sparks, Christina Rickerson and Joseph Sparks; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two children, Benjamin W. Sparks and Tamra Ruth Sparks Daigle.
Pallbearers were members of the military. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Thomson Rotary Club.
