Challenge to mayoral election heard in court

A hearing was held Wednesday in McDuffie County Superior Court on a challenge to the Thomson mayoral election.

Mayor Kenneth Usry won re-election, outpolling businessman Delmar "Brink" Bradshaw 597-579 on Nov. 8. Bradshaw filed a challenge before the McDuffie County Election Board released the final count and certified the election results Nov. 14.

Parties in the lawsuit were given until this week to submit summaries of their arguments.

Bradshaw also filed a complaint with the Elections Division of the Georgia Secretary of State's Office alleging voter intimidation. That case was assigned to investigator Robert Hernandez on Nov. 14.
