AUGUSTA - Ms. Isabella Eloise Chance, of Augusta, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011.
Born July 16, 1938, she was the daughter of Piccola and James Chance and granddaughter of Ella and Mety Wilkerson, all preceding her in death.
A native of Sardis, Ga., Isabella attended the local schools in Burke County, including one year at Boggs Academy, eventually graduating from Waynesboro High and Industrial School in 1957. Isabella received a bachelor's and master's degree from Savannah State College (University) in 1961 and 1975, respectively. She accepted a position with the Burke County School System and taught fourth grade at Blakeney Elementary School for the extent of her education career, retiring after 36 years in 1997.
Her presence among us will be cherished by her brother, Bailey (Joann) Walker, Thomson; niece, Kaili Walker, Irving, Texas; nephew, Dedric Philpot, Sardis, Ga.; godson, Le'Don Sapp, Valdosta State University, and a host of cousins, friends and special loved ones.
A home-going celebration was held Saturday, Nov. 19, at Waynesboro Deliverance Evangelistic Church. The interment and repast followed at Beech Branch Baptist Church, 7586 Highway 24 East, Sardis, Ga.
Phinazee and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
