Police seek suspect in armed robbery

The Thomson Police Department is seeking information concerning an armed robbery at a clothing store on Nov. 27.

The department is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a suspect, said Thomson Police Chief Joe Nelson.

"We have followed up on information that we have received and have interviewed several suspects," Nelson said. "We are hopeful that we'll bring the perpetrator to justice."

The robbery took place shortly after 4 p.m. at the clothing store It's Fashion Metro at 671 Main St.. Both the TPD and the McDuffie County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.

According to the police report, a black male approached an employee at the store and put a small-caliber automatic pistol against her chest.

Holding two employees at gunpoint, he made them go to the front of the store, where he forced one to lie on the floor while the other opened the cash registers.

After removing money from the registers, the suspect told the women to run to the back of the store, where they went into an office and locked the door.

He left on foot with $1,737 in cash. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, a tan jacket and blue jeans.

The employees identified a suspect who was apprehended later that night. After examining surveillance video from the store, TPD officers determined that the man in custody had not committed the robbery, and he was released.

Capt. Jamie Bridges is leading the investigation. Anyone with relevant information can call the TPD office at (706) 595-2166.

"We want to caution people that during the holidays robberies, thefts and burglaries are on the rise," Nelson said. "Everyone should take extra precautions."
