AUGUSTA — Mrs. Betty Ann New Norris of South Augusta now rests peacefully with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her call to our Lord came on Sunday evening, Dec. 4, 2011, after several years of enduring debilitating illness. Mrs. Norris worked for many years as a substitute teacher with Richmond County Schools and also worked in retail with J. B. Whites for a number of years. Betty is survived by her beloved husband, Jimmy Norris; son, Terry Norris; two grandchildren, Maggie and Tyler Norris; one precious great-grandson, Trysten Norris; sister, Patricia Helmly and her husband Dana; two nephews, one niece and their families. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, in the chapel of Stanley Funeral Home, Wrightsville, Ga., with the Rev. Robert Rogers officiating. Interment followed at Westview Cemetery in Wrightsville. Pallbearers were Keith, Steve and Ron Cawthon of Augusta, Sheriff Bill Massee of Baldwin County, Sheriff Howard Sills of Putnam County and Sheriff Logan Marshall of McDuffie County. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Webster of Augusta, John Hardin of Augusta, Sheriff Ronnie Strength of Richmond County, Kenny Miles of Augusta, Sheriff Rusty Oxford of Johnson County, Sheriff Gary Hutchins of Jefferson County, Sheriff Thomas Smith of Washington County, Sheriff Bill Harrell of Laurens County, Sheriff Richard Chatman of Wilkinson County, Sheriff Tyson Stephens of Emanuel County and Sheriff Clay Whittle of Columbia County. The Norris family wishes to thank Miss Betty's friends and acquaintances for their love and support shown to her and the family over the years. She will be dearly missed.
